Try the moisture plus Carmex in the tube- they made it a little more lipbalmy, less mediciny. I love Rosebud salve too! I can only use it in the warmer months though because it tends to makes my lips peel.

Hi Everyone :)
With all the Alphas posting some great ideas on how to keep both warm and chic during the winter, I thought I might throw in a great tip I discovered on how to keep your lips looking fresh and vibrant well into the warmer months!
Every year as soon as the cold hits, my lips get super dry, cracked, and start stinging like crazy. The only way to get the moisture my lips need is with chapstick – lip stick is far too dry and lip gloss just sits on top of my lips and gets sticky (plus, if your lips are dry, you can’t help constantly licking them, which means more lip gloss ends up in your mouth than on your lips…yuck). So frankly, when it comes to lip color during the winter I’ve had no interest and would much rather make sure my lips are moisturized and not throbbing in pain.
However, this weekend, I discovered a way to keep moisturized while maintaining great, natural color: The secret is lip stain. Unlike gloss or lipstick, lip stain gets absorbed into your lips for a longer lasting look – you can lick all you want, and it won’t fade. But, the best part is you can layer on all the chapstick you like and the color won’t rub off!
For lots of moisture, I love Carmex – it’s a heavy duty lip balm that they now sell in a handy, lipstick-like tube instead of those annoying little pots. Apply the lip balm first and give it a few minutes to soften your lips: this will allow you to then apply the stain evenly. I used this great new stain from CoverGirl, called CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain. This stuff is so perfect- they have a variety of vibrant but natural looking shades, and it’s affordable and not to mention easy to find in your local drug store, (and it’s also super easy and fun to put on- they remind me of coloring with markers when I was a kid).
And after you apply the stain, you’re good to go! Apply chapstick whenever you need it and know that your lip color won’t budge an inch. Finally, great color and moist, happy lips- the best of both worlds and a great way to keep you looking good during the cold weather months!

I personally can't stand carmex! It makes my lips more dry and it smells sooo strong! Instead I use Rosebud Salve...LOOOVE that stuff!

I love your tip on using the Carmex first for an even stain. I put this on one night before I went out and was amazed that through dinner and drinks the lipstain lasted on my lips.
