As a Canuck, I have really mastered the art of dressing for the cold. I know what the phrase, “blistering cold”, is referring to. I have walked the cold, cold, cold, streets of Toronto when it feels like a frozen tundra. Seriously, the bears are really smart to “hibernate”.
So as a Canuck, I feel compelled to pass on the secret to dressing for the cold, but of course, still managing to maintain your sense of style. It’s rather simple….
Layers, layers, layers.
Refer to the picture above.
1. I’m wearing leggings (Spanx) under my jeans (Earnest Sewn).
2. I then put on my knee high boots (Cole Haan) to protect my legs from the howling wind.
3. I’m wearing a fitted tank (Spanx) under my turtleneck to keep me toasty warm.
4. On top of my turtleneck (Ralph Lauren), I’m wearing a fur collar with chains (Shelly Steffee) to keep my upper torso warm.
5. Lastly, I’m wearing my winter jacket (Burberry).
I know it seems like a lot of layers, but trust me… The layers will protect you from the wind. The key is to choose base layers that are snug (i.e. my Spanx leggings and tank) so it doesn’t add bulk to your frame. Also, it’s great because it keeps your “bits” nice and tight (if you have some like I do).
Seriously, try out my layering technique and let me know your thoughts.
On a final note, I would like to bring your attention to the fur collar with chains by Shelly Steffee. The fur collar is a piece that keeps you warm, and still enables you to make a fashion statement. I urge you to invest in one… It’s an AMAZING piece to have in your closet. Throw it on and it’ll keep you warm as you strut down the blistering cold streets of your city.
Happy Shopping! Always rock your look!
