re: mamacita
I keep seeing this advertised on myspace in some borderline offensive ads. I'm not to keen on trying any type of diet supplement. That is if that is what it is. Plus their hoaky ads make me question the product quality and the business in general.

re: mamacita
I don't trust any ads on myspace haha. Buuut, from what I understand, there are several different companies that make the product. I haven't seen any info as far as negative effects, but its also a fairly new thing. Mom, I think the best bet is to talk to a doc or nutritionist/dietician about it.

re: Bimbi284
FYI: I've been trying to do some research for you regarding this by utilizing my school's EbscoHost and other scientific and medical journals that I have access to. So far, all I've found is that its got some significant antioxidant abilities, and that it is being suggested as an alternative contrast agent for imaging technologies (ie, MRI). Clearly, the latter has no relevance to what you'd be using it for, just thought it was neat. I have yet to see anything about how its used for weight loss or nutrition aside from the antioxidant power. I'll keep looking!

Some more goodies:
"The acai berry is also a rich source of protein and dietary fiber, in addition to high levels of both omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids, thought to have a protective effect on the heart and cardiovascular system. The omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids contained in the acai berry may also play a role in lowering levels of cholesterol in the blood."

re: Bimbi284
I'm guessing the fact that its rich in protein and fiber is where they are coming up with it being useful for weightloss or maintenence, as both of those things help us to feel full.

re: mamacita
I was able to access the MedLibrary here at work. Nothing new there except for dosage info from the Review of Natural Products:
"Numerous dosage forms are available including juices, powders, capsules, liquids, creams, and lotions. Capsule dosage guidelines are typically 1,000 mg once or twice daily with food. Follow manufacturers' suggested regimen."

re: mamacita
i dont know about health benefits as a nutritional supplement- but it's a delicious fruit and i've been using the frozen pulp in my smoothies for years now, it has more antioxidents than pommegrantes. i also buy prepackaged juice, also yummy-- so it doesn't hurt to have it, but i wouldn't depend on it for nutrients or anything...

re: mamacita
where do you get the frozen pulp? & prepackaged juice?
Thanks!

re: mamacita
I've been taking acia berry, but not so much for the weight loss, I just hear such great stuff about it (antioxidants and what not) I think your right, about the weight loss using the fiber and stuff. I've seen the adds too, "I'm no super model, but it worked for me!" Whatever!! I need to find some juice or pulp for smoothies though!

re: mamacita
the brand juice i buy is zola- it's made in brazil and available in health food stores- they do pure acai or acai/pineapple acai/coconut and a few other blends- very yummy.
i order the frozen pulp from fresh direct, where i get the rest of my groceries, but i'm sure it's available otherwise too. i know goya does a lot of frozen pulp for tropical fruits, i bet they do acai too!

re: mamacita
I think acai berry is the next new flavor like blueberries and cranberries for antioxidants and healthy aging. Let me know if any of you ladies find products with this extact that work, because the flavor is really delicious.

re: mamacita
I think it's the latest "flavor of the month" for health benefit touting - pomegranite, berries, etc. Just eat a well balanced and colorful diet, and you'll be in great shape!

re: mamacita
My husband buys the juice at Costco, which a bit cheaper than in supermarkets, my 7 year old loves it I mix it with his orange juice in the morning.

I am pretty sure the Chinese have been using it for a long time in soups and other food. They are very big on nutritious and helpful and healing soups. Which I think is sooo cool!! I love Chinese food!!
