..the contests are getting a bit ridiculous. Not that I am easily offended myself, but there have been some submissions that are either obviously photoshopped, are of a borderline obscene nature or are completely irrelevant and a waste of space. But the latter isn't really a problem, just a nuisance. I think there should be a screening of submissions (if possible)..just a suggestion.

The contests are really fun and I had a lot of fun concocting my outfit for one even though I doubted I'd win. It was enjoyable. It irks me though that some submissions have an advantage over others in the sense that they get their friends, family or whoever to join the site to over-inflate their submission comments and give them high ratings. I also speculate that these non-participating new members vote down other participants to help their friend. I know this has been brought up before numerous times but it's just getting super obnoxious.

It never fails that a fun interactive site will get questionable characters on it. Especially when there are prizes involved. It bums me out that some participants, despite having fabulous styles lose to these people because of this advantage. And not to sound cruel or rude, but how can an outfit of mediocre style beat out another outfit that was obviously well thought out and the person put their effort into it? It's not who has better clothing or who can afford retail..it's how you work with what you have. Creativity is a plus in my book. If you can make a plain ol' T-shirt and jeans into a unique and fashion-forward outfit you have "Spot on" from me!

I totally agree with you Mrs! I've pretty much given up on even looking at any of the contests lately and just focused on rating regular looks and posting my own. I'm sure if a really great contest comes along, I'll take a look and vote (fairly).
I think it would be nice if entries were screened. I suppose until that happens, all we can do is flag the ones that are obviously out of line!

I'm in bitch mode from quitting smoking and had yet another venting post...I just give up. Not that it's soo important that I win a contest but it'd be nice to lose to someone who uh..deserves it.

I question the votes as well! I have had over 100 people I personaly know vote for me! MY friends & MY family. Not ONE single vote was a forged vote! I question how someone got in first place within minutes of 15!!!!!! of my friends voting for me!!! Its pretty fishy.

I really want to win a contest, but I guess i don't have enough great style or friends to vote for me, it is frustrating because I would love to win something, especially a style contest.

It might be venting, but it's also a good discussion that has come up numerous time since the beginning of this site. The contents need to be streamlined in my opinion.
There's lots of photos of peoples faces in fashion contests where you can't see their clothes hardly at all, or photos of peoples kids, or pets, etc...photos that are completely off topic from the contest. These photos just waste the time of everyone, and should be flagged to be removed.
Also I think the best thing for their contests would be for their panel of judges to choose the winner(s) for all the contests. Then there's no question as to the legitimacy of how that person came to win.

Then Luckystylespotter.com should make there rules more clear... Rules state upload one (1) photo of yourself to display YOUR favorite party perfect look within the LuckyStyleSpotter.com site... No where does it say you have to look or dress a certain way! If this is how I look when I go to a party whats it to you? It's all a matter of opinion! Jumping in late here...but I too, as someone else(Bimbi?) mentioned above, I have just pretty much stopped looking at the contests.

I would like to see some results as to all our bitching! And I don't mind people asking friends and family to vote, if those people who signed up actually became involved in the site in ways OTHER than simply voting for their friend/family member. But to have all these accounts whose sole purpose for joining is to vote in a particular contest...eh. This, we don't need.

Who are you to say who can join this web site and who can't? And just an FYI nobody really knows about this website, by asking all the people I did to join maybe some of them continued to look around the web site and become "involved"! "We don't need this" do you own this website?

I'm with you on this Alya. If people wanna get their friends involved, that's great. I feel that they should also encourage said friends to upload pics of their own looks and, like alya mentioned, contribute to the site as a whole, not just to the one person who invited them to vote for their looks.
I also agree with Me_Lis_Sa that LSS needs to clarify their rules a bit so that only appropriate photos are added. Perhaps they should also allow people to enter their looks, then LSS screens them prior to them actually being added to the contest. This way, the "flagging" (which doesn't always work) won't be necessary.

So very true. They should restrict contest voters to people who meet some level of regular activity on the site - either by signing in or posting on forums or something that shows they aren't just signing up to vote for their "friend, etc."... some sites have done that. I also like sites that allow you only to simply "vote" for up to 5 entries (each vote must be for a different entry, with no levels 1-5 or such involved) this way, you can only vote up an entry you like, and not down vote competitors votes. It makes the contest a little more balanced.

The way they are set up here, one person with 100 friends can upvote one entrant 100 times and downvote every other entrant 100 times a day too. Someone with only 50 friends, etc. can never catch up to that kind of mass voting.

And please don't thinks I'm passing judgements here, I don't enter or vote in the contests on this site because I don't like how they are run. I don't have a true opinion on who should have, could have, or did or didn't win this last contest here.

I have won several voting contests on other sites, and in spite of having won nice prizes I still say voting contests on many sites are simply unwinnable if you don't have a TON of friends or if you aren't willing to cheat. I can't tell you how many times I see FABULOUS recipes, essays, and photos lose to lesser quality entries because of voting policies.

I mean, there are a handful of people who are consistently commenting on pictures, starting forum discussions, and uploading their own looks. Most of the new people who join do not do these things.

Hi guys. The point of this site is to share style and HAVE FUN. Lucky has and will continue to sponsor great contests with great prizes. Most of you on this forum have won something at some point (contest, shopbop gift card etc.) which hopefully proves how much we value your participation (b/c we really do).

And we love that you guys are inviting your friends to become members and rate your contest looks! Of course, we want them to continue to participate once the contest is over but we have no control over that.

Oh goodness. I joined this website because I love Lucky magazine. I've been a loyal subscriber for several years now and I adore style. I thought it would be fun to upload looks and see the style of others. I didn't think I would be publicly defamed and libeled by a complete stranger. Gina, I have flagged a comment left by one of Me_Lis_Sa's hundreds of friends as offensive, and it has yet to be removed. In addition to being hurtful, it is completely unsubstantiated. As much as I appreciate the opportunity to showcase my style, I don't think anyone expects or deserves this. While I could say more I will choose to take the high road and thank the Lucky STYLE SPOTTERS that rated my look and for sharing their great style. I hope EVERYONE has a great new year!! I know mine can only get better!

The best thing to do is to flag the inappropriate comments and ignore the trouble makers. I got a rude comment once and all I could do was roll my eyes. some people never grow up.

I appreciate all that I have received but cannot help but be hellbent on fairness when it comes to the contests. I adore this site and have been a subscriber for years.

This thread was not meant to be a personal attack on anyone. While I find it wholly unfair that some participants have hoards of friends/family to come participate in the site I can barely get one friend to join. Especially when the soul purpose of most of these new accounts is to inflate their friend's entries in contests or participate in contests exclusively themselves while never contributing the the community. But that's simply my opinion on the matter.

i agree with all of you- but i think there's a problem that's getting ignored- i often flag inappropriate comments and contest entries, and while the inappropriate entries do get rated down and end up out of sight- none of the flagged material gets removed, what's the procedure for removing inappropriate content once its flagged?

Nobody has enough friends (to vote for them) that would make it possible for them to consistently land in first or second place for weeks and weeks at a time. It's possible the editors caught on to the strategies contestants were employing to keep themselves in the top spots.
