I came across this site courtesy of the fabulous Lucky Magazine and stumbled upon this dramatic forum. Cheating, insults, gasp. All in the name of fashion. Well, it turns out so many of your suspicions were correct. Apparently one spotter took it upon herself to ensure a win. See she's also a sweeper. Through the OLS website which she mentioned in the post, one can trade votes for votes. It is a whole group of people that make a living out of winning contests. While she was accusing other people of cheating, she was begging for votes from her so-called friends. Quite shameful if you ask me. I feel sorry for the poor girls that posted their legitimate looks only to be disgraced. Too bad this website couldn't use their own better judgment in selecting their winners. So next time you think of entering a contest, watch out, the sweepers might get you. And your chance of winning, just went down to zero. I just had to pass on this information. Liars and cheaters need to be called out on their vices. Now, play nice.

Hi guys - I'm going to reiterate what I said in the last post about the contests.

The point of this site is to share style and HAVE FUN. Lucky has and will continue to sponsor great contests with great prizes. Most of you on this forum have won something at some point (contest, shopbop gift card etc.) which hopefully proves how much we value your participation (b/c we really do).

And we love that you guys are inviting your friends to become members and rate your contest looks (and yes your friends from your online social networks are welcome)! Of course, we want them to continue to participate once the contest is over but we have no control over that.

So ... please keep participating and joining contests and having fun on Style Spotter!!!!

Oh, give me a break! You mean to tell me these girls didn't email their friends, cousins, aunts and dogs to get votes? If you don't win, you don't win! The point of half of the contests is to draw traffic to a specific site/product and that was done. If you don't want to be in a contest that is judged by the voting public, then enter a contest that is judged by judges! I believe the only thing in the rules is about creating accounts to create votes or computerized voting...I don't think it says "do not allow your online friends/community to vote for you."

I don't think "these OLS people" make their living out of winning stuff. I think they enjoy entering contests and they do. They just don't whine about it when they don't win.

It defeats the purpose of the contest when you have to beg to win a contest. Especially when the subject is obviously not in tune with the theme. Even more ridiculous are those who start accounts simply to vote up their "friends". No one is whining.

It may not be against the rules and my opinion is not the one that matters, but for what it's worth, here's my problem with this system of voting:

A lot of girls who enter actually love to put together outfits regardless of these contests and enjoy general fashion. Winning a contest is justification that in the eyes of their peers(other fashion oriented women) they are in fact stylish. Having someone vote who simply hits the fifth star of someone at a request without any more thought is skewing the process.

Again...just my opinion. I am not in highschool anymore and would appreciate not being jumped on for it. Kthxbye.

I too agree. It's one thing to want to attract people to the site but it's another that it attracts people who simply want to take advantage. (which is a sad outcome that is hard to deal with..I guess..unless you want to run a site like a dictator..not a good idea either) I don't have a solution, just too many opinions. I'm sick of people hijacking contests and turning around to rub it in people's faces as if we're supposed to envy them or simply win unfairly, however "legal" by contest rules. It's not because we're sore losers or jealous. We lose, we move on. Life goes on. We're adults, not children. Then again my friends children act more mature than some people I've encountered on the web.

I see this same attitude on other sites I like to frequent and it's a turn off. I like to have intriguing discussions and see what stylish people are here. Plus it helps to put in an effort. After all that is what this site is about. Style. Not about who has the most "friends" to vote them up.
