Hey everyone,
I just purchased an AMAZINGLY awesome vintage blue leather trench through ebay and it just arrived yesterday. Its even better in person! Anyways, despite its awesomeness, it has that "vintage store smell" to it. You know, the kind of musty/dusty kinda smell. I was planning on taking to the cleaners, but there are NO cleaners in my area that directly work with leather. My preferred location ships it off somewhere else, and I wouldn't get it back for 3 weeks!!!
Soooo....any good tips on how to get that smell to go away without ruining the leather??

ooooooooooooooooooohhhhhh!!!!! it sounds so cool, what shade of blue? i've been coveting blue leather lately, i just go so enamored i didnt go on to read your whole question hehehe
i don't know a thing about leather cleaning....i would suggest hanging in a sunny spot for several days, i do that with all my thrift/vintage finds even after laundering/dry cleaning just to get them perfectly fresh, but i'm sure leather is a different story, good luck!!

Hahaha...thanks!
Its a BRIGHT blue...the listing called it cobalt...so I'll go with that haha.
Its so amazing, no rips or tears at all. There is some minimal discoloration in a couple of spots...but nothing major. The leather is in amazing condition otherwise.
Just the smell...
I've done a bit of googling and will be trying some things in the next few days.

I did febreeze the lining a bit. I was too afraid to spray it on the actual leather. I think it helped a little. I am gonna try and find some leather conditioner or leather lotion and see if that does anything.
I have read that distilled white vinegar diluted in some water may work too..but I'm worried about doing that. I may do a spot test using that tomorrow and see what happens haha.

yeah I would try that too bimbi I just read it in luckys dec issue about the vineger on pg 118. I would not dip it water, but leave it the bathroom on the shower rod on a hanger turned inside out, and shut the bathroom door to let the steam penetrate.
