My Style:
Love tailored, well constructed garments. Love mixing high with low.
About Me:
Mary Ann Evans, under the pen name George Eliot, said it best when she wrote: “It is never too late to be what you might have been”. My love for fashion emerged at a very young age and I often fantasized of becoming a fashion designer. I had however, opted to pursue a career in finance, suppressing my desire for a life in design. I reached an inflexion point in my life approximately a year ago. I knew I could no longer stifle my love for fashion and it was time for me to pursue my aspirations of becoming a fashion designer. I take you back to the very beginning when my interest in fashion became apparent. To be frugal, my mother sewed my sister’s and my clothes during our childhood. I recall our family outings to the local Fabricland, where I enthusiastically selected the patterns for my dresses and Halloween costumes. My mother was a talented seamstress with an eye for detail. I treasure the time spent with her in selecting fabric and I recall my preference for velour because of its texture. Certainly my tastes have evolved over the years, but the process of color, fabric, button or zipper selection was when I was most elated in life. The creative process of making a garment fit the body form, from inception to completion, is what excites me. After a successful career in finance, I was determined to finally liberate myself and unleash the creativity that I had long buried deep within my soul. With passion and fortitude, I embarked upon the new challenges the fashion world would present and moved to NYC. I am now in the AAS Fashion Design Program at Parsons and loving every moment. NYC is amazing because everyone has their unique sense of style and they own it. Conformity is not a word to describe New Yorkers and I think that is brilliant! I hope we can experience Gotham City together as I live, study and shop through this fabulous city! Happy Shopping!
