Vintage Love

My name is Aya and I have a weakness for clothes, perhaps even an obsession. I look at fashion through an artistic point of view… and I feel that it has the ability to express who we are. My wedding dress inspired my taste in fashion, a 1950’s tea-length wedding dress – my first vintage piece.

There are 2 major differences to note, between vintage pieces and modern ones: Uniqueness and quality. This has drawn me to collect vintage, and has me buying vintage items almost entirely. It’s rare to see the same item twice, so you can be confident that you won’t walk into someone wearing the same thing, which is everyone‘s fear, right?

As for quality, vintage speaks for itself. These pieces have been around for sometimes 20, 40, 50 or even more years. Buttons still tightly stitched down and metal zippers working perfectly, as opposed to new store-bought items that fall apart after your second wear.

Vintage dresses are my weak spot, but other pieces, such as blouses and skirts can make just as bold a statement – that will have everyone asking “Where did you get that?!”.

The great thing about, say, a vintage blouse – is that you can have the elegance of polka-dots and a over-sized ascot-bow, but easily mix it with a pair of modern dark-wash skinny jeans. Add in a vintage “cameo” necklace or pearls and you have a signature look. The same could be said with a vintage skirt, with a modern graphic t-shirt. I find mixing vintage with modern is extremely eye-catching and unique in itself… yet whenever you wear something women wore decades ago, you can be sure that will look very lady-like and charming.

Your view of vintage is right on Aya! I completely concur with everything you said. I especially like what you mentioned in your blog about not ruling out specific items that may be great candidates for some reconstruction!
Congrats on being chosen!
